Development & Marketing Manager: Job Description
Part-time, Hourly, 25 hours/week

Invertigo Dance Theatre is looking for the next member of our team!  The Development & Marketing Manager will be an integral part of sharing the benefits of dance with thousands of people each year, reach new audiences, and maintain a solid base of community support. Successful candidates will be passionate about Invertigo’s mission to create community and connections through dance theatre and will be excited to share the benefits of dance with people of all ages and abilities.

Summary: Manages fundraising and marketing efforts for Invertigo’s programs, including performances, Dancing Through Parkinson’s and Invert/ED.

The Development & Marketing Manager should have solid Marketing/PR experience. Desired skills include: excellence at communicating effectively via phone and email with a variety of people and partners, creating invoices and budgets, working with and supervising interns and volunteers, scheduling, project planning and evaluation, making presentations in front of groups of various sizes, and staying on top of the latest marketing and social media trends, especially as it relates to the performing arts.  The ability to speak and write in Spanish, as well as graphic design and basic video editing and web management skills, is highly desired.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is also self-motivated and able to work independently. Personal time management, attention to detail, and being able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks will contribute to success in this role. Excellent communication skills will be essential: active listening, asking pertinent questions, providing helpful feedback and updates, checking email regularly, and writing clearly.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Working with Executive Director, PR consultant and other staff to create strategies and schedules for institutional and programmatic marketing, implement and manage institutional and programmatic marketing efforts.

  • Planning and development
    • Developing and implementing an annual Marketing Plan for Invertigo and each of the company’s projects, including target demographics, setting Invertigo’s marketing goals and milestones, and establishing strategies to achieve those milestones.
  • Press and Advertising:
    • Supporting Invertigo’s Publicist’s PR efforts
    • Recruiting and arranging cross-promotions with other organizations;
    • Creating promotional materials and advertisement images;
    • Coordinating Google AdWords, Facebook Ads, and paid advertising online and in print;
    • Managing Ad sales and trades for placement in Invertigo’s playbills.
  • Website:
    • Managing Invertigo’s site, including the company’s rebranding and site redesign (in coordination with a third-party web design firm - the site is currently hosted on Drupal and planned redesign to be hosted on Wordpress);
    • Conducting Google analytics, measuring and reporting Invertigo’s progress.
  • Social media:
    • Developing and implementing a social media strategy;
    • Managing and distributing content on social media platforms, conducting analytics and measuring progress.
  • Communications: Coordinating content for e-newsletters, ensuring that Invertigo’s communications are consistent and on-brand.

Working with Executive Director to create strategies, implement and manage fundraising efforts.

  • Fundraising campaigns:
    • Working with designers/printers to create and distribute fundraising materials;
    • Tracking and reporting contributions in donor management database;
    • Drafting and distributing timely acknowledgement of donations;
  • Institutional Development:
    • Supporting Community Programs Manager in grant-writing efforts (including gathering materials, work samples, and tracking) as necessary;
    • Managing funder acknowledgment requirements on Invertigo’s website and marketing materials;
    • Seeking out appropriate corporate sponsorship opportunities and assisting in managing corporate sponsor relationships;
  • Fundraising events (including donor receptions and galas): Recruiting and managing volunteers, vendors, hospitality, and guest services.

As the Development and Marketing Manager, you will report to the Executive Director and will work closely with other staff members, including the Artistic Director and staff, artists, Board members and volunteers involved in the Invert/ED youth education program and Dancing Through Parkinson’s. Your principal place of work will be the Company’s office, which is currently located in Culver City, CA 90230.  You may be asked to travel to various locations throughout LA County for project-related meetings and activities, so you must have reliable methods of transportation. In addition, you should be available to help with Invertigo’s performance or fundraising events on weekends and/or evenings, several times per year, in addition to regular weekly hours, if needed.

As a member of a highly-collaborative, small, and ambitious organization, other duties and responsibilities may necessarily arise.  Everyone on our staff, including the Executive Director, has changed the ink in the printer or taken out the recycling from time to time.

Compensation: Negotiable (hourly pay range is $18-$22/hr)

Become a Teaching Artist

Invert/ED is the dance education program of Invertigo Dance Theatre. We emphasize creative ownership and interdisciplinary learning. Classes develop teamwork, innovative thinking, physical awareness, and creativity. We offer classes, performance-workshops, residencies, and community-building events for a range of ages, from elementary to high school, and abilities. Invertigo is currently seeking teaching artists for school day (8am - 3pm) and after school (3pm - 6pm) programs for the 2019/20 school year. Artists typically teach 2 to 8 hours a week for 8 to 10 weeks at a time.

Position Responsibilities (included but not limited to):

  • Teach movement classes or workshops that include improvisation, technique, teamwork, partnering and storytelling while building class community.
  • Develop appropriate curriculum and lesson plans, including for mixed-level and mixed-age classes
  • Track participant attendance.
  • Develop a final performance for long-term residencies. This may include helping students create work or setting choreography for the students.
  • Collaborate with Invertigo Admin to steward community and school partnerships and execute special projects.
  • Travel to location for classes (DTLA, Culver City, West Side, Valley, etc)


  • 3+ years of teaching experience in movement/dance
  • Currently works as or has recently worked as a professional dancer
  • BFA, BA or Advanced Degree in related field (dance, theatre, education, etc.)
  • Ability to design curricula for different age groups and abilities
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse populations
  • Interest in teaching the creative process, improvisation and technique
  • Experience working with special needs populations is a plus
  • Experience working with State Curriculum Standards is a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle
  • Willing to submit background check, fingerprints, and TB test results for schools

Teaching Artist is paid hourly for classes, planning time, and meetings. This is a part-time employee position, schedule/hours may vary and depends on program schedule and needs.
